Law School Clinic Provides Free Legal Services to Community

Students gain practical experience while helping those in need.

The Auckland Academy Law School has expanded its Community Legal Clinic, providing free legal assistance to low-income residents while giving law students invaluable hands-on experience. Under faculty supervision, students handle real cases in areas including family law, tenant rights, and immigration.

In the past year, the clinic has assisted over 400 clients and saved community members an estimated $500,000 in legal fees. The program has become a model for legal education in New Zealand.

"Our students learn that the law is not just about rules and procedures—it's about helping people navigate difficult situations," said Professor Michael Thompson, clinic director.
