Accessibility Review Shapes Campus Design from the Start

University partners with disability advocates to embed universal design principles into all campus spaces.

Auckland Academy has completed a comprehensive accessibility review conducted in partnership with Disabled Persons Assembly NZ, using the findings to embed universal design principles into all campus development from the outset.

The review identified opportunities to go beyond minimum compliance, including automatic doors in all teaching spaces, hearing loops in lecture theatres, gender-neutral and accessible bathrooms, and a Sensory Room for neurodivergent students.

"As a new institution, we have the opportunity to get accessibility right from day one, rather than retrofitting later," said Disability Services Coordinator Alex Tran.
