Semester One Classes Officially Begin as Auckland Academy Welcomes 6,200 Students

The largest Semester 1 cohort in university history arrives on campus as lectures commence across all faculties.

Semester One 2026 is officially underway at Auckland Academy, with 6,200 students — the largest cohort in the university's history — beginning classes today across all seven faculties.

The milestone follows a successful Orientation Week that saw over 200 events, including faculty mixers, campus tours, and the annual Welcome Fair featuring 35+ student clubs and societies.

"Our campuses are buzzing with energy," said Vice-Chancellor Professor James Mitchell. "Seeing new students fill our lecture theatres and laboratories reminds us why we do what we do. This is a community built on curiosity."

Key Semester 1 dates for students include the mid-semester break from 6–17 April coinciding with Easter, ANZAC Day observance on 27 April, and the examination period beginning in June. The university also reminded students that course add/drop changes must be finalised by 13 March.
