Te Whare Wānanga: University Signs Partnership with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
Partnership agreement formalises collaboration on indigenous knowledge, bilingual programs, and community health.
Auckland Academy and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei have signed a partnership agreement — Te Kawenata o Te Ako — formalising collaboration on education, research, and community wellbeing.
Under the agreement, the university will co-develop a bilingual (te reo Māori / English) foundation program, establish a Māori Health Research Unit, and create 5 annual scholarships for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau members.
"This is not a partnership where we extract knowledge — it is one where we learn together," said Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Māori) Professor Hēmi Whaanga.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei chair Marama Davidson said: "This partnership ensures our tamariki see their culture and language reflected in the academy."
