New Student Wellness Centre Opens with Expanded Mental Health Services
Purpose-built facility doubles counselling capacity and introduces after-hours telehealth support for students.
Auckland Academy has officially opened its new Student Wellness Centre, a $4.5 million purpose-built facility on the north side of the University Quad that will serve as the central hub for student health and mental wellbeing services.
The centre doubles the university's counselling capacity to 18 full-time practitioners and introduces after-hours telehealth consultations available until 10 pm on weekdays — a direct response to student feedback collected in the 2025 Student Experience Survey.
"University life brings unique pressures, and we want every student to know that support is available when they need it — not just during business hours," said Dean of Students Dr. Angela Martinez.
Facilities include private consultation rooms, group therapy spaces, a mindfulness and meditation room, and a peer-support drop-in lounge staffed by trained student volunteers. The centre also houses a dedicated support service for postgraduate students experiencing thesis-related stress.
The opening was timed to coincide with the start of Orientation Week to maximise visibility among incoming students.
