University Launches Indigenous Studies Program
New program centers Māori knowledge and perspectives.
Auckland Academy has launched a new Indigenous Studies program that centers Māori knowledge, history, and perspectives in academic study. The program offers both a major and minor, with courses taught by Māori scholars and community educators.
The program was developed in partnership with local iwi (tribes) and incorporates traditional teaching methods alongside academic rigor.
"This program recognizes that Māori knowledge systems are valuable in their own right," said Program Director Dr. Mere Williams. "We're creating space for Indigenous perspectives in the academy."
