Chemistry Professor Wins International Research Award

Professor Maria Santos of the Chemistry Department has received the International Green Chemistry Award for her groundbreaking research in developing biodegradable plastics from agricultural waste. Her work offers promising alternatives to petroleum-based plastics.
Professor Santos' research team has patented three new biomaterial formulations that are now being tested for commercial applications.
"Chemistry has a responsibility to solve the problems it has helped create," said Professor Santos. "Sustainable chemistry offers a path to a cleaner future."
