History Department Digitizes Rare Pacific Archive

Colonial-era documents now available online for researchers worldwide.

The History Department has completed a major digitization project, making over 10,000 rare documents from the Pacific Colonial Archive available online for researchers worldwide. The collection includes letters, photographs, maps, and official documents dating from the 1800s.

The two-year project was funded by a grant from the National Research Foundation and involved collaboration with museums and archives across the Pacific region.

"These documents tell the stories of Pacific peoples during a transformative period," said project lead Professor James Cook. "By making them accessible online, we're democratizing access to history."
